The Grand Happiness Foundation was founded in 2011 as part of Grand Home Furnishings’s 100th anniversary celebration. Grand spent the year working closely with organizations, providing furniture and mattresses or volunteer time. It was an honor for us to assist these organizations, many of whom aren’t in the spotlight and all work hard year around with limited budgets.

Through the Grand Happiness Foundation we are able to do some truly Grand gestures. But sometimes, it’s the small gestures that stick with us the most. Because, it’s through these small acts of kindness that we meet our neighbors one on one and truly understand how what we do can really make a difference in someone’s life.

Christmas Presents

At our Lynchburg store, one of the favorite things we do is helping a local family have a nicer Christmas than they would have been able to otherwise. Every year we adopt one family in need that, for whatever reason, will not be able to buy gifts for their children that year.  We’ve been doing this for the last 10 years and usually local churches give us our best leads on who’s hurting and could use our help. Our staff personally does the shopping, wrapping and then delivers the gifts to the family. And we benefit almost as much as the family does. It brings us closer together as a group and to our community. And it keeps the true spirit of the season in our hearts. (more…)

BECKLEY —
Blessed are those who give without remembering …

“I’m ready to go do a good deed,” says Derrick Blevins, hovering over a merchandise cart that will be full within the next half hour of things on someone else’s Christmas wish list.
Christmas Gifts for Women's Shelter

In a word, Derrick and his Grand Home Furnishings team members gathered at Walmart are — pumped. Grand is supplying the material Christmas hopes of the residents of the Women’s Resource Center for Raleigh County this year through a fund they created and fed for 12 months with their own earnings. Speedway in LightsGrand Week of Giving at Speedway in Lights

Bristol Motor Speedway will be holding the “Grand Week of Giving” at Speedway In Lights this week. One lucky patron will win $1,000 to spend at Grand Home Furnishings as well as one Speedway Children’s Charities-supported agency $2,000 to spend at Grand.

All patrons to Speedway In Lights during January 2 – 6, can vote for the agency they would like to receive the $2,000 certificate to Grand Home Furnishings. Votes can also be cast at the Tri-Cities Grand Home Furnishings stores.

For the past 3 years Grand Home Furnishings has supported Speedway Children’s Charities by donating furniture for their events. These furniture donations become prizes for Speedway Children’s Charities fundraisers. Grand Home Furnishings furniture prizes are given in connection with the Speedway Children’s Charities “Sharky 500″ rubber shark race in October and Speedway in Lights held late November through early January.

Through the Grand Happiness Foundation we are pleased to have expanded our donation to Speedway Children’s Charities for the Speedway in Lights fundraiser.

For the past 61 years the Rockbridge Christmas Basket Program has put together and delivered baskets to community families in need for the holidays. Grand’s Happiness Foundation is proud to be one of the many local organizations that donate to the program. Much work goes into gathering all the items, but the efforts are well worth it. The energy on basket stuffing day at the VA Horse Center is fantastic. It’s hard to tell who’s happier—the people receiving the baskets or those putting them together. The teamwork, community spirit and joy are infectious. This year marks the 62nd year of a program that started shortly after WWII and more than 1700 baskets will go out into our community, ensuring a happy holiday season for all.

Most of our efforts for children during the Christmas season focus on making sure they all receive gifts and other essential items that they need. Making sure all kids get Christmas presents is a must. But sometimes, even though we receive so much joy from putting toys in their hands, we forget that they deserve to experience the pleasure of giving too. The Happiness Foundation is proud to support the Rockbridge Area Shop for Tots in Buena Vista as they allow kids get to do just that. Disadvantaged children get to shop for gifts for their special loved ones and experience the joy of giving. We are very thankful that Rockbridge Area Shop for Tots continues their efforts in our community when others of its kind have ceased to exist.

It’s hard to find a more appreciative or welcoming group of people than our community seniors. This Christmas, Grand donated funding to help His 2 Hands Inc. surprise four area senior care facilities with gift baskets. For the more than 400 seniors who received baskets, the gifts were just the icing on the cake. Their smiles greeted the crew and showed warmth and gratitude for the surprise visit and festivities. His 2 Hands is devoted to the well-being of all people and we applaud their work in our community.

Caring for our community’s kids is a year-around endeavor. It becomes an even higher priority at Christmastime—a time that should be magical for all children—especially for those who struggle with challenges throughout the year.  To help ensure that every child can celebrate Christmas, Grand donated funding for new toys and clothes to Kids Central Inc. in Norton, Virginia, for local children in the Head Start program. Kids Central and the Head Start program’s steadfast commitment to the development of children makes them an easy match for the Happiness Foundation’s support. We so appreciate all that they do for our kids and look forward to helping out in the future.

At our core, the Happiness Foundation is all about looking for ways to make women and children of our community happy. This is especially true around the Christmas holidays. It’s hard for kids who don’t have much to be happy during the holidays when all the stories and things they say are about kids getting presents and they aren’t going to get much, if anything. So, when we heard about the police department in Lewisburg’s annual shopping event “Shop With A Cop”, for underprivileged kids, we wanted to be a part of it. Every year the police department there takes kids in need out on a special shopping trip. On this trip, the kids get to pick out presents on their own and are then treated to a special pizza party. You can imagine the smiles on their faces. It’s exactly the kind of great idea we can get behind. So, this year we donated to this heart-warming event. Thank you, Lewisburg police department – for the wonderful work you’re doing for these kids and for letting us be a part of it.

Welcome! We’re so happy you’re here with us for our Happiness Foundation’s Grand-opening. Even though giving back isn’t a new thing for Grand Home Furnishings, it feels great to make our commitment to the community official by establishing this foundation.

As we were getting ready for our Grand 100-Year Celebration, we spent a lot of time thinking about what it means to have a century of history in a community. It’s really amazing, isn’t it? It also makes us incredibly grateful to all of you for your commitment to us. We know we say it a lot, but we genuinely enjoy making you happy. That’s why creating the Happiness Foundation was a natural next step.

We love that our business has allowed us to get to know so many of you and become a real part of your homes and your lives. This foundation will allow us to spread Grand Happiness to more households, especially those who need it the most.

We’re very excited about this blog and the ability to share uplifting stories with you all. As we get things going, we’d love to hear about the organizations that give back to your community and inspire you.
